So between today and the start of our convention on September 4, 2021 you will be receiving emails describing the various roles open for your consideration.
Today, we would like to tell you about the very important role of General Executive Board Member, which is up for election.
Working in a team of seven, as General Executive Board member you will have a seat on the highest decision-making body in our union between our annual conventions. This is a very important body that ensures the union acts in compliance with our constitution, the law, and the will of the membership expressed at our conventions.
The Role: Member of the Board of the General Executive
The Term of Office: 1 years upon election at the annual referendum
Start Date: January 1, 2022
The Requirements:
- Member of the union for at least a year and a half, and never falling behind on your dues within the last 6 months.
Number of Nominations Required to be Placed on the Ballot: 2
Remuneration: $100 USD / mo stipend
The Main Responsibilities:

- Supervising all affairs of the union between conventions
- Processing and complete requests to charter branches and committees
- Guiding and supervising all union publications and their policy
- Visiting, examining, and / or auditing accounts of subordinate union bodies as needed
- Giving overall oversight to the operations, finances, and activities of the union
- Directly facilitating the tasks and projects adopted by your Board
- Receiving and processing funding requests related to major expenditures, as well as budgetary re-allocation requests
- Ensuring that all parts of the union are operating in compliance with the Constitution and Manual of Policies & Procedures
- Ensuring the union is in legal compliance within the jurisdictions, including but not limited to
- Ensuring the union is in legal compliance in its obligations to members represented in a certified bargaining unit
- Ensuring the union is in legal compliance in its obligations to the Department of Labor and Internal Revenu Service
- Ensuring the union is in legal compliance in its obligations to staff by following applicable employment and labor laws.
- Retaining such professional services (legal, financial, etc) as may be required to execute your mandate
- Directly supervising and managing the General Secretary-Treasurer staff member
- Drafting activity reports
- Attend regular meetings by conference call
- Composing, motivating, debating, and voting on formal motions
- Establishing and maintaining regular contact with union branches and committees
- Maintaining and updating the Manual of Policies and Proceduress
- Engage in Collective Bargaining with all staff unions
Supervision Received:
- Supervised by the membership, primarily through mechanisms such as referenda and annual conventions
Supervision Exercised:
- Supervises all bodies of the union to ensure compliance with the constitution, manual of policies and procedures, and relevant laws
- Supervises the General Secretary-Treasurer
- Supervises and manages the retention of assistants for the General Secretary-Treasurer, including setting wages
Nomination Period Opens:
- Start of the Permanent Session of the General Convention (Approximately: September 4, 2021 @ 10AM CST)
Nomination Period Closes:
- End of the General Convention (Approximately September 6, 2021 @ 5pm CST)
